Garden Groups

Garden Group days at Kelly House

On the feedback forms that were available on our Open Days last year many people expressed an interest in Garden Events and the restoration of the gardens. To this end we are forming a “Garden Group” and are inviting anyone who is interested in joining us in the Restoration, and with future Garden events to contact us on 01822 870 393 or sophia@kelly-house.co.uk

Much of the garden has been “forgot n” over recent years and our initial work will be clearing and recording, from which will stem the restoration and planting.

The gardens were featured in “Country Life” in 1899 where they were praised as an example of the “Natural Garden”. We have also been making digital copies of our old photograph albums so we already have some good historical evidence to build on. Our plan is to meet initially on two Sunday afternoons a month the first being the 6th of Febuary. We have quite a good selection of tools and can supply builders gloves if required.

A start has already been made with work on paths and a large area of Laurel near the house, and a plan for the maintenance and replanting of the garden outside our tea room has been prepared by our friend Abi Evans who has been helping with the work on nearby Coombe Sculpture Garden.

We hope that anyone who joins us in this project will feel a sense of ownership in the resulting Garden Landscape.
