Banquets at Kelly House

We are planning to hold a themed banquet each month this year following the successes of both our Haunted Dinner and Feast of Misrule. As already mentioned each banquet will have a theme for instance, we are holding a Vegetarian Dinner in March, a Gluten Free Dinner in April and a St Petroc's Day Feast in June.

Our Feast of Misrule which was held in January received a testomonial in the Western Morning News which is quoted below;

" Mediaeval banquets at Kelly house

It isn't every day that you get the chance to have dinner in the intimate surroundings of a mediaeval Hall. But Kelly house, tumble-down country seat of the Kelly family in the upper reaches of the Tamar Valley, you can dine by candlelight in the 15th century hall every month this year.

The Kelly family - Warin and Liz, their daughter Sophia, their son Jonathan, and Sophie's partner Chris Mapp - held the first of the year, a feast of misrule to celebrate the 12th night, on Wednesday. Warren is 31st squire of Kelly, and the house has been in the family for more than 900 years.

With the family serving hearty fare of soup, roast Gammon and chicken and vegetables and Sophia's to die for deserts, which included Apple crumble and sticky toffee puddings, Guests drank wine they had brought themselves or delicious home-made pomegranate cordial. The informal atmosphere and friendly welcome made for an evening to remember.

Guests elected a King and Queen of misrule, as part of this ancient feast when servants would be waited on by their aristocratic employers, and everyone sat on one table in front of a roaring fire in the huge mediaeval grate.

The family who appeared on the Channel 4 programme Country House Rescue showing their efforts to restore the grade one listed home, have made the banquets a regular feature after hosting a successful one last year to thank all the volunteers helping to restore the house.
